Emily Calimlim

is a naturalist, conservationist, illustrator, artsy forest dweller

As an avid birder and naturalist, my illustrations focus on the mystery and little known facts of our world. Since I live in an Airstream Flying Cloud with my husband, cat, and bird, so adventure is never far.

I also LOVE living this nomadic lifestyle! I enjoy hiking and poking sticks into holes to see who's home! I've gotten to go from beautiful Arizona to the breath taking Tetons. (Seriously, climbing small mountains is hard.)

But I also see cactuses shrinking, water in long dried up lake beds and wetlands with no wet! I haven't seen any tadpoles either!

Thus, I want the small people in our lives to be informed and delighted when they open my books to see ducks, pigeons, and birds of paradise! Even manatees! Or wild horses. It is crucial they know how they live in a wild ecosystem and strategies for making them more diverse and self sustaining.

However, my favorite thing to do is go birding. Am I the 33 year old looking for lizards under bushes on the trail? You bet! Will I try to whistle like a raven? Working on it. I love birds and their incredible antics and how emotional they can be when throwing a temper tantrum or screaming for a soft snuggle. They're smarter than we know!
